Planning snapshot

Use these specs to prepare the conversation.

These are planning references, not final shop drawings. Tanasi Designs confirms project-specific details before production.

Sizes

24" to 72"

Standard planning sizes cover sheds, garages, homes, barns, horse barns, large barns, and arenas.

Pitch

1/12 to 10/12

Common roof pitches are planned as standard fit ranges. Steeper roofs can be reviewed before quote.

Openings

Confirm before cutting

Roof openings should stay smaller than the cupola base and must be confirmed for your roof type.

Support

Send photos

A straight-on photo, building width, roof pitch if known, and ZIP code are enough to start.

Fastest fit check

Not sure about size, pitch, or opening details?

Send what you know. We can help confirm the information needed for a project-specific quote before anything is built or cut.

Helpful quote details

  • Building type and approximate width
  • Roof pitch if known
  • Roof material and color
  • Delivery ZIP code
  • Preferred cupola style or size, if known
  • Straight-on photos from 40-60 feet back
Planning dimensions

Cupola dimensions by nominal size.

Use this table to estimate scale before requesting exact build specs. Final dimensions and weights vary by tier, roof style, options, and project details.

Dimensions and weights are planning references. Confirm project-specific measurements before cutting, framing, ordering flashing, or scheduling installation.

Roof pitch fit

Roof pitch is planned before production.

Roof pitch is shown as rise over 12 inches of horizontal run. Example: a 6/12 roof rises 6 inches for every 12 inches of run.

1/12 to 6/12

Standard planning range

Typical fit range reviewed during quote.

7/12 to 10/12

Standard planning range

Steeper common roofs can usually be planned before production.

11/12 to 12/12

Extension review

May require additional pitch extension details and quote confirmation.

Custom review

Send photos, roof pitch, and measurements before quoting or installation.

Do not know your roof pitch? Send a clear photo from about 50 feet back and any measurements you have.

Roof opening planning

Confirm the opening before cutting the roof.

The roof opening should be smaller than the cupola base so the base covers the cutout and supports the flashing plan.

Opening is typically 4-8" smaller than the base overall

That usually leaves about 2-4 inches of base coverage on each side. Final opening depends on cupola size, roof type, pitch, framing, and installation plan.

Planning roof openings by cupola base size
Cupola SizeBase DimensionsPlanning Opening Range
24"24" x 24"16" x 16" to 20" x 20"
30"30" x 30"22" x 22" to 26" x 26"
36"36" x 36"28" x 28" to 32" x 32"
42"42" x 42"34" x 34" to 38" x 38"
48"48" x 48"40" x 40" to 44" x 44"
60"60" x 60"52" x 52" to 56" x 56"
72"72" x 72"64" x 64" to 68" x 68"

Do not cut the roof opening until final cupola size, base, roof pitch, and installation plan are confirmed. For 48" and larger cupolas, have a qualified installer review framing and support before installation.

Specs FAQ

Common planning questions.

Are these dimensions and weights exact?

No. They are planning ranges. Final height, weight, and fit can vary by cupola size, tier, roof style, options, accessories, and project details. Your quote or spec sheet confirms the project-specific details.

What if I do not know my roof pitch?

You can still request a fit check. Send clear photos of the building from about 50 feet back plus any measurements you know, and Tanasi Designs can help identify what is needed before production.

Should I cut the roof opening before my cupola arrives?

No. Do not cut your roof until your installer has confirmed the final opening size, cupola base, roof pitch, placement, flashing plan, and structural support.

Who should install the cupola?

Most customers work with a builder, roofer, contractor, or experienced project crew. Installation depends on roof type, pitch, cupola size, weight, site access, and lifting plan.

Are CAD files available?

Yes. 2D DWG files are available by request for architects, specifiers, builders, and project teams. Include cupola size, roof pitch, building type, project stage, and preferred file format.

Project-specific confirmation

Send the roofline. We will help confirm the fit.

If you are debating size, pitch fit, opening requirements, or CAD support, send your building details and photos. No order is placed from the fit check.
